Teamwork
When a team is effective there is a strong blend of ethics and values enacted by organisational subcultures and consistent to the dominant culture. It should be constantly monitored and addressed so interaction with the environment is socially and commercially effective.
Let’s take some time to understand a few key elements that will assist any individual in the real estate agency.
Values
Values represent stable, long lasting beliefs about what is important in a variety of situations. They are able to be assessed to decide what is right or wrong, good or bad. Values will dictate our priorities, our preferences and desires. They will influence our motivation and decisions. It is important to recognise that values are socially desirable, what people say they value (called espoused values) may differ from what they truely value (enacted values).
Personal values
Personal values will incorporate cultural values as well as other values socialised by parents, friends and personal life events.
Organisational values
These values are a shared or common set of beliefs within the organisation. This set of beliefs will assist in the template of what happens in the workplace. Creating a organisational culture which is a basic pattern of shared assumptions, values and beliefs which is considered to be the right way of thinking about, and acting on, problems and opportunities facing the organisation.
Ethics
Ethics are moral principals or values that determine if actions are right or wrong and the outcome is good or bad.
Have a think about your personal values. Write them down somewhere, they are a great thing to reflect on and add to as often as you feel necessary.
Then look at the workplace your in and assess if your values are similar. Remember values are socially desirable. Does the team need to get together and build/discover similarities?
As a team member in a real estate office it is imperative to recognise ethical behaviour will enhance corporate performance. We are members of the Real Estate Institute of NSW. An industry organisation that works tirelessly to push for the real estate industry to be considered as professionals and bound by a code of ethics. Check them out.
